Dev Diwali
Dev Diwali, also known as Kartik Purnima, is celebrated on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Kartik (November). It falls about 15 days after Diwali. This year Dev Diwali (Tripurotsav) will be celebrated on 26th November. The full moon date of Kartik month is falling on 26th November at 3.15 pm which will remain till 2.17 pm on 27th. Dev Diwali will be celebrated on the first day of Pradosh Kaal Vyappini Purnima. On the second day, there will be a full moon day of bathing and donation on Udayatithi. According to belief, Lord Vishnu had taken Matsya avatar on the day of Dev Diwali.

Lord Shiva had killed Tripurasura
The festival of Dev Diwali is dedicated to the worship of Gods and Goddesses, especially Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. According to the legend, once a demon named Tripurasur had created terror in all the three worlds. Troubled by his terror, the gods came to Lord Shiva and told him the whole story about the terror of Tripurasura. The gods told Lord Shiva that the last option was to kill this demon. After the request of all the gods, Lord Shiva killed that demon.
Gods celebrated Diwali in Kashi
After the end of Tripurasura, all the gods were happy and reached Kashi, the city of Lord Shiva, to express their gratitude. It is claimed that the gods come to Varanasi (Kashi), one of the holiest cities in India, to take a bath in the river Ganges. It is said that after reaching Kashi, the gods celebrated the end of Tripurasura by lighting lamps on the banks of Mother Ganga. At that time, the city of Kashi was illuminated with the light of lamps all over the world. For this reason, Deepawali of Kashi is called Dev Deepawali.
